Institutions
The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA, I.P.) is a public institute with administrative and financial autonomy. Operating under the supervision of the Ministries of Economy and Agriculture & Fisheries, its strategic objectives are coordinated with the Ministries of Education, Science & Innovation, and Environment & Energy. IPMA is responsible for maritime and atmospheric matters across Portugal, focusing its research on projects with direct operational applications. Its mission is to progressively improve the information provided to users, serving both public service and commercial needs, with particular attention to safeguarding people and property.
The Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry (LAQV), part of the REQUIMTE network, unites researchers from NOVA University of Lisbon and the University of Porto, with sites across Portugal including Aveiro, Coimbra, and Évora. LAQV brings together 1,088 researchers, including 484 PhDs, advancing Sustainable Chemistry and Chemical Engineering to deliver practical solutions for industry, government, and society. Research spans Chemical Synthesis, Catalysis, Food Science, Natural Products, Analytical Methods, Process Intensification, Clean Technologies, Alternative Solvents, and Smart Materials. Its vision is to use Sustainable Chemistry as a tool to address societal, economic, and environmental challenges, contributing to global sustainable development and long-term innovation.
